Software Developer · (07379) 233831 · rob@roeburn.com

I'm a software developer and implementer with experience across sectors of health technology, fintech, and institutional investment. As a developer for Philips, my role is as principal contributor and administrator for multiple projects, including:

• A daily baking system producing custom tailored content to be delivered to our users based on their usage patterns
• A self-hosted Retool deployment containing several tools used by our internal teams and external healthcare professionals
• Multiple systems within our AWS deployment to provision APIs and other infrastructure
• ETL jobs for managing analysis of our clickstream data
• A daily RAG-based vector database delta from our content to provide for AI-enabled content delivery

For Fidessa, I was a major contributor to a self-service portal using the React library and Kinetic Data middleware connected to Helix ITSM. In addition, I was a major contributor to capacity management tools, change control systems, and dashboard toolkits for use by internal staff. I also administered and maintained a large NoSQL project using MongoDB, which collated and exposed client information and inventory data for our apps using a RESTful API.

As an associate in Morgan Stanley's ISG Technology division I supported systems used by the bank's trading desks, specialising in risk valuation, as well as sales and trading applications. I also produced a browser-based system to manage the process of preparing for IPOs where the bank had bookrunner responsibility. As a team leader in software delivery for Fidessa, I delivered projects such as CPU architecture migrations across the client base, mandatory exchange upgrades, and a rolling monthly delivery model which required gap analysis and pre-delivery UAT.

I do other things as well.

Interests

On a voluntary basis, I have participated in a code club for local secondary schools, teaching Python to 12-16 year-old students. A basic game was built to demonstrate syntax and code convention, and I encouraged invention and creativity from the students. I found this experience very rewarding as the students always seemed to progress very quickly.

Our home network is full of Raspberry Pi single-board computers. The network is capacity-managed using a TIG stack, with several Pis providing functionality such as home automation, light control, temperature monitoring, and interfaces to our Alexa home assistant using skill bridges.

When not at work, or moving fast and breaking our smart home, you’ll find me cycling, running, travelling with my wife, pursuing an expensive photography hobby, and attempting to improve our house with DIY projects that always seem to involve the purchase of new power tools.
